This shawl is nice to throw over your shoulders for a cool evening or as a cozy addition to your winter wardrobe.

Hook size: 6mm Weight: 4

Foundation Row: chain 4

Row 1: skip 3 chains(counts as first double crochet)2 double crochet in same stitch chain 2 3 double crochet in the 4th chain from hook.

Row 2: (solid row)(even rows) chain 3 and turn()counts as first double crochet)double crochet in the same stitch double crochet in each stitch up to chain 2 space at point;(2 double crochet 2 chain 2 double crochet) in chain 2 space double crochet in each stitch up to end of row 2 double crochet in last stitch.

Row 3:( spaced row)(odd numbered rows) chain 4 and turn(counts as first double crochet and chain 1): double crochet in the same stitch; repeat (Chain 1 skip 1 stitch 1 double crochet in next stitch) up to chain 1*( 1 double crochet Chain 2 1 double crochet)in chain 2 space; repeat (Chain 1 skip 1 stitch 1 double crochet in next stitch) up to end end of row, ending with a chain 1*(1 double crochet, chain 1, 1 double crochet) in last stitch.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 for pattern

NOTE for each row, the number of stitches increases by 6 stitches each row.

When working a solid row on top of a spaced row, the double crochet stitches are worked through the chain 1 spaces of the previous row as well as in the top of the double crochet stitches.

To work the optional picot edging: single crochet in stitch where picot is desired chain 2 slip stitch in top of same single crochet continue single border to next picot location.
