Three differnet colors were used for this example, all three yarns used were acrylic yarn.

Bottom Piece: (make 2)

Foundation Row: Chain 2

Row 1: Into the second chain fron the hook work 6 single crochet and join with a
slip stitch

Row 2: single crochet x2 into each space around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 3: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next space repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 4: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 2 spaces
repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 5: Single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 3 spaces repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 6: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 4 spaces repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 7: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 5 spaces repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 8: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 6 spaces repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 9: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 7 spaces repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 10: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 8 spaces
repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 11: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 9 spaces repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 12: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 10 spaces repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 13: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 11 spaces
repeat around row and join with a slip sttich

Row 14: single crochet x2 into the first space and once into the next 12 spaces
repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 15: single crochet x2 into the first space and once
into the nest 13 spaces
repeat around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 16: join the two pieces together eith a single crochet around the edge, a hard piece of plastic can be inserted into the middle of the two pieces for a more rigid base if desired

Body of Backpack

Row 1: single crochet into the back loops only around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 2: * chain 2, skip next three spaces, double crochet in each of the next three single crochets* repeat from * to * around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 3 - 11: Insert hook into beginning double crochet pull new color of yarn through the stitch, chain 1, *double crochet in next three spaces chain three skip next three spaces* repeat from * to * around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 12: half double crochet into the back loops only around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 13: double crochet around row and join witha slip stitch

Row 14 - 18: single crochet around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 19: single crochet in back loops only around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 20: double crochet around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 21: single crochet around row and join witha slip stitch

Row 22:* double crochet in first three spaces skip next three spaces chain three* repeat from * to * around row and join with a slip stitch

Row 23: single crochet around row and join with a slip stitch

Flap

Row 1: Attach yarn to the top of the bag 15 spaces from the centre of the bag and single crochet in next 30 spaces.

Row 2 - 20: single crochet across row chain 1 and turn.

OR

Flap can be worked with the checkered stitch if desired

Straps

Row 1: Attach yarn 20 spaces from centre back and work 1 double crochet into the next 5 spaces chain 1 and turn

Row 2 - 20: double crochet across row chain 1 and turn

Weave in all ends in at least three different directions to ensure that the ends dont come loose through use.
